BUSINESS NOTES

Connect Your Ad Promise to Your Landing Page

An ad creates an expectation before the visitor reaches your website. The landing page should continue that expectation clearly enough that the person knows they are in the right place. Review the ad and page as one journey: the offer, service area, important conditions and requested action should agree from the first message through the final confirmation.

Write the promise in one sentence

Summarize what the ad tells a person they can get or do. Include the service, intended audience and any meaningful condition. If the ad promises a preparation guide, the destination should provide that guide. If it invites an estimate request, the page should explain how to make that request and what happens next.

Check the image as well as the words. A visual can imply a particular product, finish, location or included item that the copy never states. Record those implications in the review. Remove unsupported details rather than expecting a visitor to discover later that the attractive part of the ad was only decorative.

Make the arrival point recognizable

Use a heading and opening section that identify the same service or offer. You do not need to repeat every word of the ad, but the connection should be immediate. A general homepage with several unrelated services may require the visitor to search for the promise they just clicked.

Show the main action and essential context without forcing the person through a long company introduction. On a phone, check whether the heading, offer and next step remain clear. Keep important conditions readable and close to the relevant claim. A page that looks coherent on a large monitor may bury the useful information after stacking on mobile.

Keep scope, price and availability consistent

Compare the service area, included work, exclusions, price presentation and timing in both places. A starting price should not become an apparently fixed price after the click, or vice versa. An enquiry should not be described as an instant booking when the business must first assess availability.

Choose one owner for the approved offer facts and update the ad and destination together when those facts change. Record where the offer appears so an expired promotion can be corrected across all active routes. Do not keep an old ad running simply because the updated landing page now explains different terms.

Illustrative mismatch

A fictional repair ad invites customers to request a standard bike-service appointment, but its destination opens a page about custom bike builds. The team replaces the destination with a relevant service page, confirms the assessment process and tests the request form. Adding the advertised phrase to the unrelated page would not fully repair the customer journey.

Test the action through to its confirmation

Follow the exact destination URL used in the ad, including campaign parameters if present. Submit a controlled enquiry, open the resource or complete the appropriate non-destructive test path. Check that confirmation text tells the customer what actually happened and how the next stage works.

Verify the internal side too: the request arrives in the intended place, carries the needed information and has an owner. A thank-you screen is not proof of notification delivery. Keep tests separate from real customer records and remove or clearly label test items according to your established process.

Review the journey with a fresh reader

Ask someone who has not worked on the draft to look at the ad, then the page. Have them explain what is offered, who it is for and what they would expect after taking the action. Differences between their answer and the approved offer identify wording or layout that needs attention.

Use the resulting questions to improve the connection, not to add every possible explanation. Keep the page focused on the advertised task and provide secondary detail where it helps a decision. Save the tested ad version, destination and date together so later changes can be checked against the same journey.

  • Ad promise and page heading describe the same task.
  • Visual implications are accurate.
  • Scope, area, price and timing agree.
  • The action works through confirmation and receipt.
  • A fresh reader understands the next step.

Your next step

Place one ad and its destination side by side. Mark every service, price, condition and action in the ad, then locate the matching information on the page before approving the campaign.
